hi all you boat owners that either moor or dry stack your boat in and around the Solent. I'm looking to take my boat and store it at a suitable yard or mooring that's safe, easy, and cost effective. Can anyone advise ?

I've had some quotes my boat is a 6.4m pilot house which unfortunately I don't get to use as much as I wished so I'm thinking that if I take it off a trailer and moor it its simplar than struggle if I'm on my own

Andy,

I moor my boat down at Warsash. Have done with various boats over the years. Never had any problem which might be due to the CCTV. Good people running the marina too who constantly check the boats so I don't need to visit unless I'm using it.

It's so much easier when it's on a deep water mooring as you can use it whenever you want. Like you I get to use mine much less than I'd like.

However it does come at a cost. You have the lift outs and anti fouling 240z highlights and its costly. I think I am paying ÂŁ499 per metre annually plus vat.

As with most things it boils down to personal preference and some trade offs.

Yes I know it comes with a cost. I probably won't get to use it as much as I want to. I understood by the harbour master at Warsash that they don't take fishing boats ?

I've found one deep water mooring unserviced but interested in names/ places of serviced ones please
I've also found a fairly good priced mariner but like everything in life it's who you know as opposed to what you can find on the net. I'm hoping to get some names of places safe secure and accessible as I'm fairly unfamiliar with this coast line

Andy, I have done both and can honestly say that when coming back from a long day at sea the last thing I want to do is to trailer the boat out of the water, so my boat has been on a mooring for many years now, but as already mentioned it does mean you will be taking it out every year to antifoul it, the only problem I have is that it's not a deep water mooring so I can only get in and out 3 hours either side of high water, which can be a bit of nuisance if the tides are at an unsociable hour, but on the plus side my mooring fees are only a fraction that others pay for a deep water mooring.

My boat yard is on Hayling Island has a good slip if you wanted to use that, you can also store your boat there, it gives good access to the Nab Tower and Selsey area.

Not sure how good the dry stacks in the Solent area are but I really prefer it to my boat being in the water unused for lengthy periods.

There is no need to antifoul, the boat doesn't get rocked about when the weather gets bad, with a ground level storage I can get at the props and outdrive easily for maintenance.

Cost wise I reckon it works out cheaper at Portland than a mooring as each time the boat is lifted the underside is pressure washed whereas if on a mooring apart from a small number of lifts per year for cleaning that is an extra cost.

I don't get down to the boat as often as I'd like but when I do I just phone ahead and she's in the water ready when I get there. when I've finished my stay I just tie up alongside, let them know I've finished with the boat for that stay and go home, they then lift it out over the next day or so.

It just suits what I do better than having the boat slopping around in the water 24/7. If I lived nearer I'd want her on the water as I'd then be more able to take advantage of weather windows.

What yard ? I'm looking at Trafalgar. What do you pay ?
