Two inches - no problem. It's common enough, may get away with not even re-ringing the last two or three, depending on original spacing.

 

hope fully only 2in may be a little more by the time i cut it back hope fully not lo. just depends on how well i can cut it and if there are any splits!

 

I take it your needing to cut it back because it is splintered? Depending on how bad it is you may get away with glueing it with epoxy between the splits then put on a new tip ring, do an extra long wrap with thread to cover the repair and add extra strength, coat with high build. If that sounds a bit too much work take it to a rod builder they will fix it up for you

 

losing 2/3 inches off a rod is no big issue unless the damage goes further down the blank.you may need to move the next ring down if it's obstructing the new tip ring,if not then just glue a new tip ring on cheers,lee

Yes a junior hacksaw is best, best bet would be araldite to glue it as it will strenghten it

 

what ever you do dont araldite the tip ring on, if you break the tip ring in future you will then have to remove another 2 inches of the rod cutting off the tip ring, and that will affect the action of the rod.

There are pleanty of experianced rod builders on here who will give you top advice...
