Hi guys need a little bit of help. Just got myself a bait pump
Should be fun. Took it out of the package I can't pull the handle up to stiff
Phoned up the company I bought it from he sead he had not a clue.
Does it need adjusting or do lob it

I wouldn't do that, I like tightening the thing up when walking between beds or walking home with it so the thing doesn't slide open and it is always handy to adjust the suction as you go along and then take apart when you get home for washing out, getting rid of the wing nut would make all that harder.

I've got a Matchman 22mm pump, no room in there for a wing nut so it's a nut driver for me to tighten/loosen the Nyloc lock nut, worth it I think even in a 28mm pump as its less prone to movement in use than a wing nut .The nut driver is screwdriver sized and just lives in the bucket or coat pocket. Never looked back since going to the long 22mm pump :)

The Nylock nut system is the best I have found for general use , yes it does require the use of a 13 mm a/f socket or boxspanner but it allows infinite suction ( to 29 inch mercury !! ) and it stays put under the most demanding of pumping conditions .The wing nut option causes more trouble than its worth due to the thing backing off in use or when traveling accross the mud and sand , its no usewalking up to half a mile out accross the beach only to find the wing nut and half the washer assembly is in a puddle a quarter of a mile back !lol !
As for the guy in the company that sold the pump in question not knowing anything about the product he sells... well that just about sums up the cheap and not so chearfull ebay option, ya pays peanuts ya gets some saddo monkey !!

I`ve been pumping for quite a few years and swapped over to a nylock nut many moons ago....wingnuts tend to slacken off during use,and in the depths of winter it is a real pain trying to get your fingers inside the shaft to tighten it. Once my pump is set up,i don`t touch it for 12 months, which is when i change the washers/bung....after a pumping session i carefully place the pump in the garage and leave it until next time.

hi pumping lug is great as u see it online wsf vids ..... ha ha pump pump worm every time I don't know anyone who does this ??? there is a real art to this pumping lark I have tried many times no good ........ HA give me a spade or fork any day . ps take your spade as well when you go . good luck JEZZA

Pumping lug can be like fishing...some days it`s hard work, but the majority of time you will get plenty to fish with and freeze. You can find a patch where the worms just don`t want to come out,but 20yds away and they come out easy.In my experience, those lads who take the time to meet up with competent pumpers, and put the effort in,will invariably get the technique mastered and never look back.

Funny you should mention that Mick, this summer alone 2 people have come wandering forlornly up to me on the beach to ask if I've got any spare washers/nut for just that reason, they'd spat their wing nuts etc out of their Alveys at some point along the line and realised too late !!!!!! Wing nuts, as Mick says, can be a pain in the arris at times , a Nyloc is so much less hassle, if you get serious about pumping then a few quid for a nut driver is a p*** in a pot and makes for really easy adjustment that STAYS where it's adjusted to :) If you get serious about pumping too drop Mick a line and get a proper pump , the reduced workload per worm/ cast is massive with a 22mm, once you get to grips with finding the worms it's the only size pump to go for :)

That is a very good tip Ian Pick , I used to supply a Stainless Steel box spanner with my pumps at extra cost because they were tttttime and labour intensive to make . I may well make a box spanner like your item in future as it certainly looks cheeper to produce !

I've a similar problem as I can only get limited suction.
I believe that my pump has a design or manufacturing fault. The central rod through the washer assembly has FLAT milled along it, even beyond the thread and shoulder where the diameter changes. There is only a loose D washer to prevent air traveling along this flat and entering the pump.
Advice please, send it back?
ps. Why have Alvey changed the wing nut thread size from a standard M8 to some bastard size?
