Hi all, this is one of my first few posts and its a shame its not a more positive one. My mate and me have just started sea fishing this year, after many years of fresh water fishing we got bored and decided to give the sea a crack, only had about 5 sessions and I've really been enjoying it. We had a decent session down horden a couple of weeks ago, when we both caught our first ever fish off the shore and a good few more, so we went down yesterday in the hope of a repeat performance, I arrived about 1pm, my mate john and his friend simon were already there, I only had a couple of hours spare so I left biteless at about 3.15pm. Unfortunately in that short space of time some little ##';[]..'['s had smashed the passenger side window of my mates astra, in broad daylight middle of the afternoon, and for what? a handful of cds out of the glove box. I feel totally gutted for my mate, he has spent over a £1000 on that car recently due to his cam belt snapping, now he has to spend more money because of some little worthless druggy needing a hit. We were both really enjoying the challenge of sea fishing and getting a real buzz from it, now I'm debating whether its worth bothering with it anymore.

Cheers

Rich

Ps any marks with safe areas for parking around the north east coast ?

Sorry to hear about your mates car, it would be a real shame if pond life like that were to put you off fishing.

Thing is it is the same all over. Anywhere isolated (unless it is the middle of nowhere) you leave your car there is a chance this will happen. Did you park in the car park at the bottom of Cotsford Lane? To be honest even 20 years ago I wouldn't ever park there, always used to park in front of someones house and walk the extra 1/2 a mile. Even better if a few of you are fishing as you can drop one off with the gear at the car park then drive back up to park the car.

Same at Seaham parking for the Blast, and there are a million threads on here about problems at Steetly. Sad but true that along with good bait, the right rigs and a bit of luck one of the things you have to worry about when planning a trip is the safe place to park your car.

yes mate bottom of cotsford, truth is didnt look any worse place to park than any other that Ive parked in before, especially though the day, but now I know better, you would think if its a hotspot for 20 years, then they would put a camera there or even a sign, makes no difference damage is done.

if fishing in daylight you could always try roker pier mate, never had a problem with vehicle there, never tried fishing it in darkness though.
Dont let the little scroats put you or your mate off! As the lads say try and park outside someones house even if it is a bit more of a walk.

As stevie said here roker pier is canny we park there on a night time on a few occasions and touch wood never had any probs.

i remember a few year ago we were moving house and i filled my boot with boxes filled with my vinal and cd and video collections from the last 25 years locked the car up with nothing in sight and went in the house to get my tea. some little toss pot screwed the car and took the lot and this was broad day light! Everything i have ever collected music and video wise was gone absolutley gutted still feel sick to this very day thinking about it! all the police said was well you should of not left it in the car!!

As i said dont let the bstards grind you down They will get there come uppance one day!

hi all my first post hopefully many more to come, im john i own the astra,i aint put of sea fishing, but id would like to get my hands on them cos this car has cost me 1500 quid in the last year, and these theiving bxxxxxxs cost me sum more and wiped out my glovebox containing cds and tapes that ive had for twenty years so im not a very happy chap at the moment, stressed out is a understatement,if car crime down there is so bad its about time something was done before we take the law into our own hands.as my hands will be working if i knew who it was as richie knows me very well we been mates for a long time and all the years we have fished together we have never had no bother of windows been put out. i hope they do get there comeuppance cos theyll get it if they meet me.hopefully a few of you lads may bump into us nothing like having A bit crack with some fellow sea anglers. cos im hooked tightlines. john

Sorry to hear of the damage and loss to your possessions mate, but it has honestly been the same for the last 20-25 years that i know of, to have to leave your motor near the bungalows/houses is a pain in the arse (done that walk many a time over the years) it is a cracking venue on its day and due to the access it is hardly ever over used. My advice would be to get a 4x4 if you can afford it, drive down and fish out the back of it (be careful in the winter/wet weather) great for a lot of venues and saves the old legs. It is either that or one of you drives the motor back up to safety after dropping all the gear off and the other does the walk back up to fetch the motor down when yous are due to leave. Good luck with the fishing.
