Hiya c100xy, thanks for the report. I notice your favourite rode (for summer use) is a spinner for float fishing. I like the sound of that, I have a 9' pike rod for the same thing. Where have you used it last summer?
Any ideas what the big knock could have been?
cheers M

Hiya. Hope to see you down there one evening/day. Whiteshell point is the point of the rocks at the east end of the left/low water bay of Caswell. My Mrs says that they used to call the rocks that run parallel to the sea (in this left hand bay of Caswell "Ledges",.,..
Anyway nice to hear good reports from down the hill from me 8>)
see you soon..

i havent fished there in the winter before but if i was going to i would fish either low tide or high on the bottom with a whole squid on a pennel rig! in the summer i float fish there with small strips of makrel usually for mackrel garfish and bass and bottom fish with crab for bass.

I have drunk in the Rock, but I prefer ale so tend to drink in the Newton. I feel a bit bad about not using the Rock more as we are quite friendly with Becky.
My father in law and brother in law use the Beaufort, I used to when I lived with my oldies as it was the nearest pub to Druslyn Road where they live.
I think I vaguely recognise you from your pictures, probably seen you around Mumbles..

I've only recently "returned" to sea fishing. About a month ago I bumped into two fellas from work fishing Mumbles pier and it ignited my previous interest. I dug my gear out and joined them the next session they had. I'm still getting bits of kit for various adventures together, just bought a slosh for a boat trip we've got planned for july out of Burry Port (the chaps above are Turks, so we are using a boat local to them:dry: )
I wanted a reel that did double duty as a boat trip is a treat for a working man trying to run a family in this hole of a country... and the slosh's are ideal for that and the beach.
There have been pictures taken of me since my fishing renaissance, but the Turks took them... I'll have to get them sent to me, but the ain't pretty :roll1:
I've only had three fish of any interest since starting fishing again, a big doggie, a good sized codling and a fat little rockling.
I'm having a full day down the pier next wednesday, she's in work, the kids are in school and I'm on leave. I'm going to try some dawn lure/spinning and some evening beach/rock fishing throughout the week too (once she's snorring...)...
What do you do for a living?

oh i see..excellent, is that a reel u bought?i dont know makes of fishing equipt. like....im off out fishing wed 23rd ......my next day off really where i wont have a hangover lol....i work in a call centre but im a carpenter by trade, yourself? im in the process of saving for a boat, i loveeeee boat fishing its amazing, and not just the fishing its great being out at sea with the views we have around mumles/gower!! and drop a few crab pots to see if you get anything...great stuff!! just finding somewhere to keep the boat is a problem as the marina is £1000 pound a year i think to keep it there......

I'm a Train Driver. The reel I bought is a Diawa SL20SH. It looks really small, but has these big "cogs" that make the winding mechanism very strong (I think). The reel is reasonably priced and quite good for casting but can also be used for shore fishing over the rough stuff and mediumish boat fishing without falling apart. It was recommended to me by Richard in Mainwarings. I've put 18lb line on it, which suits it's capacity looking at it, but I may splash out on some posh skinny stronger line once I master the thing. I'll probably go down the front to practice with it before I use it in anger.
I'd love a boat, but won't be able to afford one for a few years. A grand a year for the marina sounds pretty reasonable to me. I'd probably prefer to take mine home with me though, if I'm ever lucky enough to get a boat. Aren't you allowed to lay them up by the Mermaid any more?
Where are you off to wednesday? Fancy the pier? I'll teach you how to blank !
