Little over budget but can recommend the Icon fxd elite (15ft)
Slim light and can chuck 6+bait no probs!

 

Can't comment on price because with the internet every day is different, but I really enjoy fishing with my sonik gravity surf, 15ft or so, for most of the year with weights between 90 and 170g (3-6oz in old money) fixed spool, braid, dream on my south coast fishing.

Cheers for the tips all, while I'd like something In the £200 to £300 range, I decided to go for the bang for buck choice of the fxd super sport. Should give me something to play with and still able to throw 6ozs.

For a 5oz lead and three moderate baits clipped down I like my vercelli with hybrid tip.
When the tides pulling harder I prefer my imax match plus. Bite detection no where near as good but still rattles enough for flatties to show up.

The super sport and super elites are two piece 14ft, (Very stiff) by all accounts, i have the 3piece elites which are (15ft) which have the weights in the butt!

 

It says the supersport here is the same as the sport except a full carbon tip. No counter balance weights though.

Just looked to the next page of the catalogue.

I think the only 2 piece available is the super elite 2 piece?

Sorry if caused any confusion.
I got a email from veals and then came across your thread.
Seeing as you were looking to use a rod on your local turf that rod looked ideal as will cope with the bigger leads.
I went purely by VMOs description of it being a 3 piece rod..or 'conti' as the marketing men now call them.
Looking at the spec of the lighter version, it does seem to be a better bet if your looking at something for scratching around as you describe.

 

It's cool mate, you didn't cause any confusion, Leedas own website has done that.

I'll call veals Monday and decide on what to get.

 

Defo a 3 piece, just spoke to Veals, left my order as it is.

Which one, the sport or super sport?

 

Picking it up on the way home now so can take it out tonight.

Veals confirmed by email that they too had fallen to the confusion from Leeda, and have said that the super sport does not have counter balance weights in the butt like the sport.

 

Hope you get a few fish to test it out! Is veals still on old market street???

Christened! This bends lovely, even with a little 1lb 7 codling on board, not sure I'd need it softer. Tempted by a second.

I should add. I'm using braid. But the bite detection is great.

 

Had another of similar size, again bite detection you'd have to be blind not to see them.

Had a few tiny bites as well. That I didn't connect with but still very visible.

Been fishing 5oz, but also just threw out 6oz plus rag bait and it felt great with that too. Only oht for now. I've never cast a conti before so don't have a point of reference but I am enjoying it so far.

 

Is it a soft rod, does it flex right down to the butt on the cast?
