After missing Thursday's sesh with Andy, I decided to do Cymyran last Saturday. Andy couldn't make it, but Cuffmeister and his brother arranged to meet me there.
Got there an hour or so before low, to find that conditions were spot on (for a change for me):
I decided to fish two rods, one with a pulley dropper rig, and another with a one up one down rig in the hope of a turbot.
The first couple of casts saw a fair bit of kelp coming in. However, this seemed to ease as the tide turned. After an hour I had a slack line bite. More kelp I thought, until I started to reel in. I managed to land this, which I didn't weigh, but guestimated at around 2 and a half pounds
Things went a little quiet for a while, so I decided to drop my distance. 5 minuted later I bent into something much better, and after a good scrap I landed this female Small Eyed ray, which weighed a healthy 9lb 2oz. Well Chuffed:
Things then went quiet again for a couple of hours, but at dusk I managed to land this rattling bite, which measured 40cms:
Couldn't believe my luck, had caught a couple of rays, and also missed a couple of good ray bites too.
Ian's brother Chris didn't stay long but managed a turbot, a first for him I think.
Cuff got off the mark with a doggie, and a couple of nice sized whiting. He also managed a turbot for his 29th species of the year.
Not long after this I caught a doggie, which probably weighed a couple of pounds.
As high tide came, we were going to call it a day, but the chap next to us suggested staying another half an hour, as things can pick up then. Five minutes later, I had a cracking take on my 1up 1down rod. Managed to bring this ray in, which weighed 8lb 110z:
Just after this, I missed another slack line bite, then decided to call it a day.
This was the best session i've had for absolutely ages, and will be returning soon in the hope of a turbot as well.
Tight lines all,
Steve
