I managed to pick up a pair of these (5oz and 7oz) and I just got them today.

Are they as rare as people have been saying? If they are is it worth selling them and getting something like a ron thompson or gemini mould system? Or are they worth keeping? are the leads they make that much better??

Cheers

I think the DCA Moulds are just better quality and as has been said, are no longer available. I have some R Thompson moulds, which are cheap, but unfortunately I do get a bit of leakage (flash) from the edges of the seams due to the low quality matching faces on the two halves. This adds work to clean the weights up to remove rough edges.

I also have Gemini and Ajusti Moulds and these are much better than R Thompson. I did recently buy a torpedo non gripper DCA Mould, but have not yet used it.

Doubtless Weightmaker will comment on the superior quality of the DCA Moulds as he is a heavy user of these. If they are gripper moulds, who knows he may even be interested in taking them off your hands!

keep them they are like rocky horse shite although i have heard a rumour of a manchester based firm trying to buy the rights to make them as for paying ÂŁ122 for one the person must be mad saying that i was out bid on one at ÂŁ67 just before xmas. and yes if they were 6oz beachbomb or aquazoom gripaway i would have been interested in buying, you will probably find you get the better price for the 5oz as theses are more commonly used

I don't mean to gloat, but I found a brand new 5oz dca aquazoom breakaway mould, in a little tourist type shop in the mumbles south wales.
I paid 12.99 for it! It was one of those shops that sells a bit of everything, magazines, sweets, with a little corner of fishing tackle bits. Couln't believe it!
My thanks must go out to a mate who told me about it though. I'll keep him in leads for a while as thanks.
As for the moulds, excellent. No leakage, and the weights themselves they fly out, cutting through the air like a dagger!

Fair play to DCA they had a reputation for making a superior product when it came to moulds. However, the first thing you had to do when you received the mould was to clamp it together and drill out the pour hole as it impossible not to clog it up whilst pouring the molten lead.
After reading an article in Sea Angler magazine where the featured angler used "dimpled"leads (ala golf ball) i wrote off to "Mike"@ DCA moulds requesting a mould to re create these wieghts, he replied that rather than making the leads more aerodynamic they infact hindered the leads flight as dimples only assist a rotating object(golf ball). Right or wrong he had the decency to reply and in doing so explained that he was going bust. A shame really as his factory was within 20 mins of my house. Anyway,if any of you forum members wish to borrow a 5oz or 6oz DCA MOULD just send me a PM and we'll sort something out.
