Been having trouble tagging some big bass on surface lures that i've seen jumping on my local sea wall recently. Some gents here gave me some good advice in respect to why they werent interested, such as - there must be bait fish or a food source thats more interesting than my Patchinko. So i went back to same spot with some good old ragworm, on a simple paternoster pennel rig and this stonker nailed the back hook right in the scissors. Cracking fight, opened it up and full of small hardback crabs. Will be back again bouncing some soft plastics (maybe Dolive Sticks?) along the bottom. Perseverence paid off. Beeyaawtaful!

Trust me these fish are in close, close enough for me to see the dorsal fins while they are out of the water. I see sea trout jumping every season, but this mark is new to me, and before then I had barely seen bass feeding like this
Agreed Seatrout are quite simple to distinguish once you have seen a few leap , as i said there are always exceptions . How long have you been Bassing before seeing the leapers at this mark ?
I 've been been fishing too long to start saying you'll never, it'll never , they never but i love to take it as a challenge when somebody else says it !:)

Bet they were Mullet !
Generally speaking Bass are not great leapers but they will be in the same place as Mullet which are avid leapers !
Do the small hardback crabs around your area swim on the surface ?

Ps Nice Bass !:)
I fish top waters from the boat mainly and regularly get good bass completely clear the surface when hitting my lure. Particularly if they are there in numbers and want to get it first!

Plenty of Bass but no bait or shoal of bait ?
IMO If there is plenty of bait the fish do not waste energy racing out of the water and in most cases Bass watched feeding naturally are not great jumpers .
It's great when there are a few competing for your lure when the same fish on their own might just have a look and a swirl !

u hit a bass in a foot of water
u watch them jump
feck me they go like trains
had two doubles do it as well
both ran a good hundred yards
they get well spooked in that depth
