Hey guys thoughts of maybe going fishing this weekend but the day and time i picked it will be 11 degrees. Im going for bass, but i hear that at 11 degrees they usually go out to sea to find warmer weather? What do you think?

:roflpuke: 11°c is a heatwave compared to some of my pike fishing temps... try lure fishing from an open boat in -10°c in a blizzard and 20mph winds on a 1000 acre reservoir, the baitcaster dripping icey water on your hands all day, with the braid instantaneously freezing at the point it leaves the water, and having to suck on your rod rings every 3 casts to melt the ice cubes that are your rod rings.

11°c.. cold?? Seriously?

Yes mate, done that for donkeys years, but there comes a point when it doesn't work.. especially so when lure fishing with braid.. the texture of the braid rubs it off too quickly. When it gets to silly temps the braid instantly freezes at it leaves the water.. you can see it form and it's like winding in a washing line. I pretty much only ever use braid so it's just something iv'e learnt to live with. Most (sane) people wouldn't dream of fishing in -10°c temps but there's something special about catching a big pike when there's snow on the ground.

That's interesting to know, absolutely love my pike fishing, those cold crisp mornings where every step sounds like your walking on cornflakes there's definitely something about it makes you feel alive, must be a mix of the cold air mist and anticipation (hope) of catching A fish.
I mainly deadbait something special about watching a float sail away with the river only to evaporate (fish on)
Always carry a lure rod to explore the swim and to warm up, not long now till the start of the season you've got me all excited now hadn't realised how close it is,we'll tight lines point with your croc hunting all the best bud kaiih.

Yes mate, it's very close now.. just hope i get my mojo back soon. I love those cold crisp mornings as well.. no-one else around, walking across a field caked in frost, with wispy ghosts rising from the river.. it's magical.

After bait fishing for decades since as far back as i can remember, lure fishing is my true passion nowadays.. there's a certain satisfaction of being able to spot where the fish will be lying and running a lure past it in perfect position, depth and speed.. then give it a small twitch and BANG. Even though you are half expecting it, it's a shock every single time. Got to love how aggressive pike can be.

Good luck to you as well Kaiih and here's something to ramp up your excitement a bit more bud...

Totally agree with you there point, aggressive, explosive with inexhaustible patients definitely lives up to it's nickname the river wolf.
Great picture showing there cannibalistic nature,I have seen a duck taken before, just over half adult sized and only a rod length from my float fished herring typical.
Cheers bud.
Kaiih.

In all my years pike fishing i've never seen a duck taken despite watching out for it to happen. When i first started lure building i took my new topwaters down to a lake for their first outing. Casting along the back of an island with 100's of black-headed terns breeding on it, a pike shot up and leapt about 3ft clean out of the water with my lure in it's mouth. On landing it, it had a huge meal in its stomach and when taking the hooks out i could see two feet sticking out at the back of its throat.. it had taken a tern and then annihilated my lure just after.. it was only 10½lb! lol
