hey there,
i have previous experiance in coarse and carp fishing so i have used groundbait feeders before. i was wondering has anyone tried it in the sea from the beach. maybe just putting one above the weight so it creats a cloud in the water.

IVE used swim feeders in the past mate just get a 35mm film case put holes in it take a piece of sponge the same size as the film canister chuck the foam into your worm bucket while bait collecting to soak the blood +juices up put it back into the film canister then slip it on the bottom of your rig above the lead or you could take x2 mackerel mash them up in a bucket with your foam then use that sent when fishing you could put the mashed up mackerel in the feeder instead of the foam hope this helps mate  you can even use the old fashioned rollers woman use to were:thumbs:

theres two camps here and one of them will hate you:boxing::boxing:

I like you come from a coarse fishing back ground and as such think that feeders in some shape are a good thing, where as the sea fishing only back ground boys think we are all barking mad.

I have seen that alot of the match fisherman are useing some form of feeder so may be it will work its way down to the beach some time.

I work with the idea that in the pea soup of the bristol channel anything that adds to the scent trail to attract the fish is a good one.

I started using wire mesh cages inbetwen the lead link and the rig packed with halibut ground bait mixed with oil, squid, halibut, pike fishing marcral, smelt etc

in the fast tides it washes out to quick so i now use the drennem plastic maggot ones also in large, every one quotes using 35mm film cases but scince i dont have any and have not had any for 10 years i would have to buy them so i dont! you will always find with sea fisherman a list of standard answers to questions, they are very closed minded compared to the free thinking coarse cousons, its very strange to understand at first but you will soon get used to it they are a friendly bunch.

now to take it further , i have started to use home made lead weighted cages for boat fishing, these i fill with all the bait table cutting board waste again as extra to the hook baits and as such a bigger scent trace.

to also cheat and to add more to my baits this winter i shall be trying a simple squid bait but inside it shall be a handfull of either oil soaked or crushed up and oil mixed halibut pellets then the mantle of the squid tied off with elastic. the only reason i am using halibut pellets is because they are the high oil mixed verses cheapest ground bait i can find.

It must be doing something because the last sesson i had we tried a plastic feeder on the hook snood behind the baited hooks and it came back smashed to pieces every time.

the next idea is to work on the amour mesh bag idea with squid worm and ground bait oils mixed up and rolled into one.

and before the negative view lads attack me no i dont use bollies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yet

Over the summer I experimented with feeders and tried them this autumn also I found them useful from piers I use blended shell fish and oily fish and add peeler scent the feeder from a beach limits your casting as they are bulky but from a pier had some good results. From playing around with feeders I would not say they give you the edge but good for putting a sent trail out I will be experimenting this winter when the water is very coloured and see how it performs then. Also fish will hit the feed also I have had a couple of smashed feeders from fish trying to eat it. I have found well prepared big bait is just as good as a feeder giving a good scent trail.

those sea scenters are the best i have seen but i cant afford them being UB40 at the moment, so i have made mine from what i have found at home to do the job.

now if you read this thread and another one about kite fishing you will under stand why i can get them out without casting problems.

the bigger question is not just if you use them but what to fill them with.

the big boat ones get fish scraps and ground bait which has been oiled to get more scent into it.

i am trialing crush krill and oils on friday and squid and mussel on saturday, using a halibut ground bait made from old pellets and plain bread crumb.
