I'm sorry in advance.

I know people hate these posts but I'm a guy needs some help here. I'm off to The Bay, in Filey second week in September.

Would like to fish from the beach directly down from where I'll be staying.

Any advice would be great. Tactics, baits, rigs, tides.

Feel free to message me directly if you want to.

Thanks in advance, a very grateful resident of The Forest of Dean.

i aint fished the area my self, but i no that the summer cod fishing in filey can be great on the brigg, but not too sure about on the beach.

my cusin used to go for a week every summer, and have some fantastic codling sessions in the heat of the day. and some big wrasse also. the place where he stayed the bloke who owned it, was a fisherman himself so he took him on the brig and showed him where to fish.

my advice would be , try and get a local to take you on the brig and show you how to go on. peeler crab is a must. preferably fresh.

ya probably will catch flattys etc on the beach if it is a sandy beach, using ragworm, and maybe a bit of makerel.

hope this helps.

I used to take my lads fishing off the cobble landing at Filey when they were 6 or 7 years old, there were lots of Dabs to keep them happy, and also quite a lot of weavers , so I had to keep an eye on them both.
The place to be for me though , was the Brig itself.Quite a walk from the cobble landing when the tide was on the ebb, or as an alternative , drive up onto the brigg itself, pay for parking, and walk along the brigg and down the ladders, or take the track down to the end, there are lots of Brigg marks, I used to fish by myself at nights, as I am well used to the place, but for a visitor care should be taken, it can be a dangerous place, but has the potential to throw up some good fish, both summer and winter Cod, Pollack, Wrasse, Mackerel, abn outside chance of bass, I have also been spooled by something big that took off and there was no stopping it, could have been a Tope, who knows.

Hope this helps.

Filey bay, Cobble Landing, Hunmanby Gap, Reighton Sands.
TBH I dont think the bay is fished much from the beach, most anglers either go north or south,to better marks, most beach fishing is done further south , from Bridlington South all the way To Spurn Point, a long way, at the moment there are Smoothhound, Bass, Thornback Ray and the odd Cod coming from Hornsea south down as far as Kilnsea, but it is a bit of a drive. There is a small tackle shop in Filey, but I cant remember where it is or its name.
Filey area Is mostly rock fishing.
Hope this helps.Another link for you below, covers just south of Filey, there is a map on the link.

I've fished it many times. Plenty of flatties at times, mainly flounder with some dabs and an odd small plaice also bass but mostly small schoolies. I've caught fish on the beach from the Brigg to Speeton.

Nothing special on methods, usual two hook flattie rigs and baits. Try different distances until you find the fish. Let us know how you get on.

Hey, was fishing of the beach between reighton and filey over a few days was getting flattys nearly every chuck, couldnt hit the bass tho, was talking to a local and i few days b4 i got there he said small bait fish were jumping out of the surf onto the beach escaping the bass. didnt fish the brigg tho they were really big tides, didnt wont to risk it on me own.

The Brigg is the anglers' hotspot especially at or around low water or off the rocks on the south side of the Brigg away from the danger. But the beach between the Brigg and Coble landing is used by some when the holidaymakers are not on there, early mroning and mid to late evening or after dark and when the nets are not there to foul your line up, There's also the sea wall. Try the far end, opposite end to the Brigg, at a high flow tide - it doesn't really get up high enough unless the flow tide is high. But that's where the bass will be found when not off the Brigg.

The fish will take most baits and lures, as anywhere else. Although if you know how to handle them there are free peelers and mussels on the rocks at low water, all around the Brigg.

Beyond the sea wall, balliion, or beneath it? Below where the beach huts are I mean, or walk further on to clear beach and only the cliff behind. I'm going over there on Wednesday night/Thursday morning so could give it a try.

Thanks ballions. Had a go on Wednesday night / Thursday morning but had the wrong gear and wrong bait (although the worms did get eaten!). My fault, lost a bit of gear en-route and tried with what I had left. I'll give it another go soon, though. It seems promising and spoke with a couple of local guys who confirmed that.

Just got back from Filey after a weekend there. There was the Filey fishing match on over 2 days. The Brigg is a fantastic venue. Beautiful and the fishing is Fantastic. Cod and Pollock and Wrasse. I got my first ever polloock and it was on a lure. lots of people go there but theres plenty of room. On the night time we messed about on the roundel straight of the prom as high tide was around 6pm and I had a pretty good flounder. There are lots around there.
