Depends on the op s budget , fladen will do a job though of course its not top quality , saying that im amazed how they can produce gear for that price at all , i have two feeder rods i use carp fishing , no problems with it , some of the gear i see on beaches is probably inferior to fladen in fact , treat it as starter gear because if you want to go regular you will want to step up from it , places like "the range" or "in excess" budget stores sell a vast range of fladen and it will catch fish , the tips on the rods are thick in diameter when compared to higher grade rods but there you go .

im amazed how they can produce gear for that price. This is what I think John, a top end rod will probably cost 10 times or more than the Fladen. I doubt the high end costs, reflect that amount of difference. How many anglers on here have said about a rod, if it had a Century/Zziplex label on it, it would be twice the price. I tend to agree with that assumption. Dave.

Yeah it's all down to budget but when i first started working in Norway i went to the local tackle shop & bought a cheap fladen set up around ÂŁ40 in our money, the first day i had it i was only mackeral fishing & the rod snapped, not where you would think it would snap near the tip but it was nearly half way down. A couple of days later i went back to the shop & the concerned shop keeper quickly replaced the rod with another same make & model free of charge. I went out to a different mark which is around a 10 minute walk from the shop. Well it happened again, i did have feathers on & i had 4 plump size mackerel but i thought the rod could handle this as did the shop keeper, the casting weight was 20-50g. Personally i would never touch another fladen nor would i ever recommend one, there is plenty of budget gear out there from the top manufactures, stay clear

If you look around you will find much better gear at Fladen prices. Saying that their terminal gear is not so bad, caught plenty of mackerel on their luminous shrimps in cloudy water, but rods and reels are iffy at best!

Simply looking around the big tackle shops can result in some great savings, I picked up a Rovex 20lb boat rod for a tenner a couple of years ago at the big tackle place in Skegness (near Fantasy Island theme park - great roller coasters). Teamed it up with a Mitchell 624 I had from a car boot sale for a tenner and I have a great holiday boat outfit.

Similarly we went to a big fishing tackle exhibition near Norwich and picked up a very tasty Shakespeare beach caster rod and fixed spool outfit for 40 quid! Bargains are available!

IT amazes me that so many people slag off Fladen gear yet even more people love (or at least rate highly) the Shakespeare gear.
14foot doesn't tell me what weight you want to cast; but I believe there are thre versions of the Warbird beachcaster available, the 15 foot telescopic 6-8oz wch I have, a 15 foot 3 piece also 6-8oz, and a 14 foot version which I think is a lower casting weight around 5-7oz if I remember correctly. I paid ÂŁ30 for mine and what I don't like about it is the cheap type of reel seat which will certainly jam one day (but hasn't yet).

Not got a lot of experience with Fladen gear, I bought a small telescopic spinning combo jobby (ÂŁ12) for the kayak which is still running great and casts lovely for what it is.

Any rod from any manufacturer can and do snap, reels will seize up or give in totally.. this is ANY manufacturer. If a Fladen set up is all the budget allows and this will enable you to get fishing then go for it!.

From a personal view though, i'd agree with many of these guys.. you can pick up some fantastic deals on quality gear if you're willing to put in the time.

Aldi are doing Fladden beachcasters tomorrow for 30 euros. If it gets you started then you cant go wrong for that money. I have a Fladen multi that I have for a spare for boat fishing but it has never been needed so I cant comment on the quality.

I remember Fladen doing a Warbird rod of 12ft + reducer, it was a cracking rod for the money, cast really well, handled a bit of rough, all for around ÂŁ50, it sharply resembled the Abu Elite too look at, so they can produce decent goods when they want, also there 555/ 666 etc multi's have a good reputation.

Don`t waste your money!
Shakespeare gear is far better for not much more money.
For example- a shakey neptune multiplier lasted me about 15 years before I sold it on in excellent condition.
A fladen multi lasted about 6 casts before it gave up and got booted down the beach.

All rods can break, I snapped a Shakespear 14ft Salt rod in half during a retreave, I was not happy, especially as my Dad was rolling around on the floor laughing that his cheapo Fladdens were still in one piece.

Buy the best you can afford at the time, have fun, and at least if they do break, they are only cheap to replace.
