Your looking very industrious there Tommo and that gurdy is some tool m8:victory:,does the boat have a set of stripper rollers its faster but more messy i think you'd love that eh. Aj:)
Those strippers are amazing bits of kit but i think they are very expensive??? I am getting the hang of flicking the macky off the line now.:victory::victory::victory: When are you next going on blue for a bait collecting sesh,i wouldnt mind tagging along and using a fishing rod for a change lol.

A decent stainless stripper would set you back the best part of £500. The gurdy in your pic would not leave much change from £400.
Not cheap, but they last a lifeline so a sound investment.

When strippers were first used down here, many boats took them off again as they were loosing too many fish on the front roller, especially the big ones. The line goes 90degrees over the roller, and the heavier fish tend to fly off in all directions.
Stripping bars also bend the points of the hooks over and knackere them pretty quickly. Even good hooks; and even if no fish are being caught.
You also need to use heavier sets of hooks which can reduce the catch rate. I use real light gear, but you have to be very, very careful.

The main advantage with using the outrigger and stripper is the reduced amount of skill required to use it and the speed the line can be worked.
A handline requires more skill, especially when long sets (25+ hooks) are used. I'd soon have hooks caught in every item of clothing and a tangles mess for a handline.
So it's gurdys, outriggers and fish strippers for me sir !!
LOL Ive a few puncture wounds, coil my line in a bucket, but one macky dropped on it can cause major tangles!!!
