That is a very tricky one to answer mate.
Depending on length of session, size of worms, how many fish are about etc.
As a starting point for 2 rods using 3 hook flappers on each rod fishing the flood tide say six hours fishing time and using half a worm per hook, changing baits every 20 mins or so try sixty worm and go from there.
Any excess can be frozen down and if you run out then hopefully you have had a great session.
On top of the worm I would also take maybe a couple of mackerel fillets for tipping off the worm.
That's what works for me up here anyway.
Also depends how long your going to stay out...For a shortish session, say two wraps of 10....For a longer session, perhaps 4 wraps??? That's using half a big lug on each hook....
Seriously though, like the others have said. How long do you intend to fish? What other baits are you intending to use? Is lug definitely the best bait for your chosen venue as on plenty of venues rag will out fish lug for flatties. What will the crab situation be and also the tidal conditions for washing out your bait. Size of the worms you have plays a massive part. If they are big frozen blacks cut them in half if they are small fresh blow lug then one per hook.
For a two hook set up using two rods I'd say.
Fresh blow lug 1 per hook for a 15min soak. That's 16 worms for ever hour you want to fish.
Frozen blacks cut in half then 8 worms per hour.
Hi Bernie, With two rods 2 hooks, at distances one worm on each hook it's normally 11-15minutes in the water that would be 8 worms an hour. That's a rough estimate so if are going to be using more hooks or more worms on each hook you can work it out for the length of time you are going fishing.
For me 4 hours fishing, 2 rods, 2 hooks each, 50 -60 fresh lug or 2 wraps black definitely would take squid and a macky for tipping off adds sent and visibility if water has colour in it also stops worm rolling round hook,
Just curious, but why the difference in numbers between fresh lug and wrapped? Just down to the cost of the wrapped?
