hi all i am looking for some marks in devon or cornwall to try and catch the ray that has not been caught by me yet , a lovely blonde from shore . if any one has any info ( tides, bait, etc ) i would be very grateful . i know its early but i need to plan my weeks off work in advance , and need some kind of foothold on it this year . looking forward to any suggestions or even a meet with fellow wsf anglers

N Devon... anywhere from the taw/torridge estuary up to Morte Point. Best chance from Morte Bay beaches. Squid will take them but sandeel is by far the best. Blondes are good from early summer to mid autumn. Lots of smalleyed here too, for much longer. Hope this helps.

Gow, Nice fish mate. You might want to re-title your photo to Spotted.jpg though as it is not a blonde. Did you catch this one on prawn?

I think that you'll find that they are Spotted Rays, not Blonde Rays.

I have caught both and they have been identified for me by a very knowledgable Skipper!

Hmmm, we'd actually ID'd it as a blonde as the spots did extended to the wing tips and the snout was a different shape, giving it a second look it doesn't look like that in the photo at all though, dunno if we were being gormless or if that's a picture of the wrong fish. However I'm not going to be ungracious in defeat, here's a nice picture of an undulate ray :g: we caught in the same session to say sorry.

:g:  :g: gow that is definately a small eyed ray i know because i have caught over 300 of them :yeah: , an undulate ray has white lines and many white spots and mostly caught off the boat or in the channel islands and maybe in the middle of summer around the s/e shore line . nice fish though

Usally get the first run this time of the year ,down the rope ,there was a lot of rubbish down there so it has been fished alot recently ,I fish for rodbenders so i should not take that much working out ,just looked at my catches for blondes last year ,had 9 in total but only 2 of theme were doubles the best 20lb 50z and the other 12lb 120z but i took my mate and he had one 18lb 110z so it does chuck them up the rest were between 5lb and 7lb,but not till later in the year
