Great.Just what we need. Thanks for the heads up.

You can come in from the harbour
dodge round all the lorries that are sucking shyte from the southern water pumping station
been doing that since friday
the cafe is closed due to a big like sink hole in rd plus drainage

Do I take it that access via the tunnel is shut then?

personally i used to find the better fishing in ramsgate is from the beach, about 300 yards ish from the pier. there's a flint/ sand bank out there, i used to fish low water up (you'll see the bank at low tide). if you'r on your own if you use a 4oz breakaway with the wires folded down, cast to the up tide side of the bank and let it trundle over the bank. the bites will come when it gets to or just over bank. don't go too light with the hook snoods as they get battered as they go over the bank.

if you do fish the western under cliff i used to prefer the end of the prom furthest away from ramsgate. it's a bit of a walk and you will need a light. if you get chance have a look at both venues over low water and you'll see the features you need to fish too or on the edge of.

can't offer any up to date info as i don't live in kent any more.

good luck.

hi not just rumours, I was on there last sunday and had a small codling as did a few other anglers, a nice bit of wind does help though!

yes about 20 years ago there were a couple of extremely large bass caught. I think they were both about 18lbs. There are still quite a few caught on the pier, generally down the wall to live pout or whole squid in september and october though not heard of anything as big as the two i mentioned.

There's some really helpful, very specific info on this thread (as there usually is in the SE forum) - brilliant to see gents.

Just out of curiosity...does anyone know of any 'surprises' ever caught from Ramsgate pier? Anything over the years that was decent?
yes yrs ago people caught fish now they dont

The first bend used to be called "Cod Corner".

yes, all venues along the se coast have shown less fish in recent years, and Ramsgate was always the poorer cousin to the Deal and Dover venues, but given the right conditions and tactics fish are still there to be caught.
yes small ones

i think youll find the 2nd bend was known as cod corner

the east pier use to be a great venue for cod shoulder to shoulder fishing all the way along it
as for fishing the end you had to be there at low water just to join the queue for a spot
what ruin the fishing was the building of the ferry terminal they took sand from the main beach for reclaiming land[thats why there is hardly any beach now] and secondly they built those breakwaters which affected
the tide run theres no constant running water washing everythink thru thats why the harbour mouth builds up with sand
and you never use to be able to walk round the base of the pier
the biggest fish i see caught of there was a 20ib cod caught in the surf only cos that was the only place left on the pier the guy could fish
as for flounders they use to be the size of dustbin lids on the inside thanks to the trawlers [yes r/gate did have a fleet of trawlers]gutting and throwin them over the side

Thanks for the very enlightening history lesson RR.
I think the fishin has also got worse over the last 3 seasons due to the dredged material from the entrance being dumped close in so that the flints have formed a small reef that has adversely altered the current off the 1st and 2nd bends
