My Dad got a phone call today saying that John Grinstead had been taken to Worthing hospital after having a stroke. Early indications are that it was a slight stroke but that is all i know.
Lets all hope and pray that he will make a full recovery as soon as possible. I know alot of the Shoreham and Worthing match anglers on the forum will have known John for a long time and hes a very nice bloke.

hi all,
its been said in a few other post...but its true..john has been
an insperation to us all,and has on more than one occation helped many
anglers, with bait,lifts,knowledge...now i think we can all agree that
we can't help john with knowledge...but would hope that we can all
chip in and help him with lifts if he needs one and bait if he needs it!
i know i will be offering him my services to dig him some bait!!!
i will phone his wife later and find out how he is and let you all know
how he's getting on!!!

Sounds like he could do with a new bait pump mate, if there is to be any fund raising I will be happy to chip in.

Have just spoken to Kevin who told me that subject to the results of some tests ,John might be home at the weekend It appears that he has not lost the use of any limbs but is not making a lot of sense when talking, nothing new there then!
Lets hope the silly ol sod makes a full recovery

Bumped into him down the widewater last autumn after he had just finished testing out his homemade bait pump. the thing had exploded with nuts and washers all over the show but he had still managed 30/40 fine worms. we sat and fished together all eve sharing cups of coffee and pasties warmed up on my lamp talking about the good old days and friends past and present. get well soon.

Is this the same Jonny Grinstead that was part of the Shoreham Angling Club? If it is then I have fished alongside him over many years, but only once together at Humphries Gap. The man is a legend.

Last time I saw Jonny was a couple of years ago when I was crabbing the river, he came up to me and started moaning because I was working his traps, or so he thought, even threatened to beat me up whilst holding in his false teeth. I was shocked but also amused, luckily he found the funny side of it and we both had a little giggle. After which he acknowledged that I have laid many a trap over the years and that I was somehow granted permission to carry on. I have so much respect for the man and wish him a very speedy recovery.
Yup thats the same John Grinstead. Definately a character and can tell a story or two. Caught some fish in his time too, lets hope hes ok.

Lets hope your right, i doubt if anyone else will get to 80 odd and still go fishing and bait digging on a regular basis as much as Grinny does. Really hope he is ok, i wish i knew more.

Fishing is one of those activities that you can do your whole life and i think John has set the bar pretty high for what is possible as you get older. Good on ya John you're an inspiration but maybe Mother Nature is saying it's time you put your feet up.

If anyone will be seeing him soon send him my best wishes
