Please could anyone help me via pm or post with lugworm digging on N Norfolk coast. I don't expect to get details of people's favorite spots but general hints about the best beaches with sensible access and low cost parking, would be much appreciated.
I rocked up at Brancaster a fortnight ago and immediately drove back home, rather than pay £9 for parking on a rough bit of wasteland.......I knew N Norfolk had undergone gentrification decades ago but was crazy!
The cost of diesel for the round trip from Peterborough plus the cost of worms is just too expensive but now that I'm retired, arriving at low tide to dig worms and then fishing makes the job just about affordable.
I probably fish N Norfolk about six times per year so I will never bother the lugworm populations.....nor the fish populations!

Heacham is easy digging ! Park north beach at the end of the beach huts ( free) and before the first brick building ..
As you walk over to the beach walk right a mininmum 4 groynes towards Hunstanton and fill ya boots , no need to even go outside the groynes !!
failing that if you can’t park for free there is a pay n display car park there also but no idea of cost as I never use it .
Failing that then go to Hunstanton , find some street parking if you don’t want to pay to walk ( or park tescos for 3 hours free parking ( less of a walk ) , personally tho I find heacham wams better than hunny wams ..

Perhaps a silly question but I'm going to ask it anyway because the answers are going to teach me and many others a lot about lugworm. I know that garden worms can be found in soil all over a garden. Are lugworms the same in the sense that any location with sand will also hold lugworm? I've seen lots of locations along the River Orwell with small sandy stretches that have mud under the sand which I've often thought would be perfect for lugworm but if sounds like this might be an over simplistic view.

You dont always see the depression at the tide can fill it with sand easlily . It then only reveals its self when the worm becomes active again. More oftern than not the cast will stay visible most of the time. Only on the more exposed beaches will they be washed clean . Worms are found in pockets, were they are at the optimum position for feeding. If the ground is to shallow they will not colonize for long and move to better beds . Blow lug are usely found from mid to top of the tide zone . Although as i right this i can think of a fair few spots were they are on the bottom. But in general blow are found middle to top. Its worth bareing in mind about the fact that particularly on our marshes there are nurseries that shouldn't be dug . They should be left to there possess of makeing there way down the beach to reach matured state . Good tip is to follow the runs down from the nurseries to the mid level of the tide zone and start your search there. Also the better worms are normally were water lies in shallow pools ,that leads to alot more work for your quarry. Ive lost count of the times people have said to me they tried digging a few times and now realize thats why they buy them from a shop/digger.

What a brilliant and generous response..........all power to the East Coast Forum!
At one time this forum was populated by negative keyboard warriors, keen to keep their catches and venues highly secret. I have always found, during 60 years of all types of angling, that the best fishers are keen to share information on venues, methods and catches. Fortunately, this type of angler now dominates the forum.
Special thanks to Col, Chazza and Roughgroundwarrior. Wild Scraper sounds more committed to metal and plastic?!
I don't expect the digging to be easy but at least I can start where there are worms!

Thanks for the warning, looks like another bit of the county off limits to me. I'm getting hemmed in.

Once these bu66er* get the nod to charge for parking they keep increasing the payment. Disgusting I say, I mean nine quid !!!! OK Parking fees really get my goat. It's just another form of indirect taxation. There is not enough militancy we just roll over and die and peel off. I bet this is our Queens foreshore and they have no god given right to charge 1p let alone nine quid !
