What's the best thing people have bought/used for the first time in 2013? Was it something that lived up to the hype, something recommended by someone or just something people have used for years but you never bothered with? Or none of the above? Can be new or second hand. Had any good fishys on it/using it/after drinking a cup o tea made with it? Zz and C words are allowed, encouraged even!

Mine would have to be my prototype 5m golds rod bought from Ian himself, truly remarkable piece of kit and brilliant for lazy summer fishing with ridiculously long rigs.
Leeda Icon ultra power, just awesome.
7ht turbo!

Mine is getting into lure fishing properly, and my Vectura 11'.
Caught an absurd amount of fish with it, and hardly blanked.
Best year ever. Revolutionised summer fishing. Cannot believe I waited so long now.

TTLDSM is stunning too, and can quite see why you love it so much. If I fished clean ground more I would be with you.

My "old" Conoflex 13' MS Cobra has been in my garage for approx 25 years; having dusted it off and used it twice so far it is a fabulous fishing rod; I bought it along with an " MS Injection" (which I still have) from Mike McManus himself direct in my tournament casting days so has sentimental value; totally irreplaceable.

Had the Cobra when they came out but the 12' version, would love a 13' even now, great rods.

A couple of things for me.

Fugu line. Did everything I asked of it and more.

Okuma magnetix reels. For the money they are untouchable.

Breakaway flat back sinkers. Cast as true and straight as a bullet and grip like s**t to a blanket. (Note, the plastic heads need to be fitted A LOT more securely before I buy another batch though) and I wish they would do them in proper sizes like 7 & 8 ozs

Has to be my latest reel.
I love the design and quality of Daiwa lure fishing reels and I have just picked up a new 3000 size Luvias reel to go with my 2500 size model.

Casting lessons, after 30 odd years (on and off) fishing, and frustration.Colin Olver "crackoffcolin" @castyourlead.com . Soooooooo wish i'd plucked up the courage years ago. He has helped my casting, end gear, catches...I would encourage any newbie, or like me! someone who may have battled through frustration, snap offs , lost kit, birds nests, thought's of packing it all in... So much more pleasure, not wondering every time you cast if your going to **** it up. And the money it saves in line, leaders, leads, rigs yadayadayada... If your struggling, get a few lessons, pick the blokes brains on any thing and everything it really does bear fruit!
