Fished low water at rossall tonight with AA member couchy.
Arrived at top of chatsworth slope around 7.30-ish and after picking our spot set up with some worm couchhy had brought. I started on a two hook flapper and I think couchy was on a Wessex. While the worms were soaking we pumped some fresh worm. Hard going at first but they soon started to cast and we had enough. It was a really nice summers evening and up to low and around an hour after we had nothing...not a sniff. I pulled in a foul hooked tope pup, that looked like being the only fish. Looking down towards anchorsholme I said to couchy, 'bet you could get a smoothound at rossall', conditions were perfrect...why not? By now the tide was well on its way in and light was fading. I was now using an up & over rig. I said to couchy that this would be my last chuck because i hadnt brought my headlamp and it was going dark quickly, fresh worm on. Stood between our rods talking then my rod went, nearly followed by my tripod. Fish on, felt like something big (for me anyway!)After a bit of a fight we were both amazed i pulled in a starry hound. Around 7lb I think. I dont carry scales to weigh fish. Said to couchy think I might just have one more...no sooner had I said that...couchy was in to a hound, i'll let him tell his own story. We left shortly after both well pleased. Great fishing...top night :thumb:
