Hello all, 1st report on here. Having not getting fishing for 2 weeks due to the bad weather, decided to get out today for some light tackle fishing from the sheltered harbour.

After picking up some decent rag from the tackle shop I headed down to the harbour wall, walking round i could see plenty of small immature fish swimming close to the weeds edge. I got set up with a 7ft 8-25g spinning rod, 6lb mono and a simple ledger rig 3/4oz weight and a size 1 Aberdeen hook. Kid's stuff really lol.

Straight from the 1st cast, bait barely hitting the bottom and into action. Into the 1st pollack of the day, cast after cast into action with small fish giving a great battle all around 6-8 inchs. an hour or two later got my 1st whiting of the season.

As dusk was starting to fall, I changed direction and started fishing the mouth of the harbour. I cast in and bites were not as much there then wack, rod bent in two and thumping. Knowing I was on light tackle and the feel of the bite i knew i was in for a treat if i could land it, and when it surfaced i was pretty amazed to see i had a cod on the end. Niceley marked codling measured in at 14.1 inchs.

In the next hour it was pretty much the same settling down no bites, so getting deflated and still half a bag of rag, I decided to switch back to the middle of the harbour and back in action straight away. With 2 worms to go and the rain starting to batter down I threaded both on and compacted down to make a chunky bait and lobbed it back in at the mouth and no longer than i sat down and lit a cig the rod buckled again. Another nice codling around the same size which had a smashed up crab in its gullet.

After last cast and bait finished packed up and called it a day, all in all decent day fishing for being in a harbour and with 2 codling, 1 whiting and 25+ mini pollack all returned safe and well.

Looking forward to getting out again!!

Welcome Doosh. And nice fishing. I'd say those cod felt like smoothies on a 25g rod!

I've heard that rock-cook wrasse can be caught in tight around that harbour. Tried once or twice but not for any length of time.
