I am a technical numpty, so would like some expert advice on rings.

Personally, I dislike BNHG's, I am not a major fan of Zircons due to the discolouration, so I currently have alconites on my rods and I like them. However, I recently found out that a 25mm BNLG weighed less than a 25mm Alconite. Like I said I am a technical ******, but, I would have though that a lighter ring would affect the action of the rod less. That being the case is it worth switching to BNLG's?

Alternatively, any other advice on a set of reliable rings for a fishing rod (max ÂŁ40-50 for a set) would be much appreciated. I have found Pacific Bay mentioned during searches, but, expert feedback on types and your experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Fish Dorset I had a Century TTM factory built with BNHG's and underwhipping which I hated, it reacted slowly and had no feeling. I got it rebuilt with Zircon's and no underwhipping and found the rod much better, it seemed to recover quicker and was a much nicer fishing rod. I have had similar experiences with other rods, using BNHG's affected the action in my opinion and definitely made the fishing experiencing less enjoyable.

You obviously have much more experience with building rods, but, I know what suits me and just looking if there are better options available to me other than alconites.

You mentioned it there, underwhipping will add more weight.

Obviously, it all depends on how many guides are on the blank and the overall weight. If you had the same amount of guides wrapped the same way you would find it hard to tell the difference. I am talking about the same style of guide and not completely different ones.

You have got a wide range of choice from Fuji or other brands.
Fuji - BNOG, BNLG, SiC, Alconite.

You can go for a different design and get light weight frames made of other alloys, or single leg?

Options are open to try.
