Century Tip Tornado Lite or Ultralite will be the perfect tool for the job. Others to look at iclude the Zziplex Powertex Bass, Conoflex Source, Conoflex Foo Fighter 1 and the Penn PPt Pit Viper. the new Shimano Aspire and Penn Affinity ranges also produce a 2-4oz beachcasting rod, however i have not seen these yet alhough they should be very good.

You would need to use a braid of roughly the same diameter as the mono that works best on your reel. Braid birds nests are a bit expensive though and the change in actual line weight (how heavy it is) will upset your reel tuning. I believe braid is lighter so the change SHOULD be on the safe side.

I think theres two ways you could go here a 2-4oz beefed up bass rod or a 3-5oz light beachcaster depending upon which you prefer. The Greys BZe 3-5oz is a nice slim, light rod which has plenty of power but feels more like a bass rod to hold, it can be used with a fixed spool or multi aswell making it versatile. To be honest there are quite a few rods on the market which can do this work ranging from ÂŁ50 to nearly ÂŁ300, it all really depends how mcuh you intend to spend and what size weights you intend to use mostly.

If you want a beach caster the greys supro is very light, user friendly and easy to cast. It's rated 5ozs but I would say that's tops. It works well at 4 too. Oldchucka uses it down to 2ozs.

There is also the AA surf. That really is in between a bass rod and a beach caster except it is a light weight beach caster.

No problem on strength on either of them

Pass on conoflex. Philtherod may be able to make a suggestion.

Just to elaberate on my first reply, my 5500 rocket is teamed up with a PPT Pit Viper and really is a fantastic combo. Very light but with enough backbone for most things. Bite detection is amazing. Before this I used a 12ft TT Ultra Lite with the reel and didn't enjoy it half as much. ÂŁoz can travel a hell of a long way with very little effort.

I use a Shimano STC 7 piece beachcasternice and light and sensitive plus tucks away nicely in the boot coupled with an old Abu C3 with level wind. Works a treat for me.

If it has to be Conoflex would go for the Bass Bandit, had to do some work on one recentley, cracking little rod. I use AA estuary with my 55ct, nice little combo, use mine with either 20lb Powerline Braid or 8lb Ultima Black Hog, for anything heavier I use a Century TT Ultralight, this has more of a parabolic action, similar to the Zziplex PTX Bass, which is another option in the lite or PTX version. For 2-4ozs I would go for the Bandit, 3-5ozs Century TT Ultralite/lite.

The bass bandit tip is very heavy and the butt is ultra light. It balances like a pig. Pig is too nice a word. May be fine if you want to keep it sticking straight up in the air. The aa estuary is as you would expect rather soft and isn't intended for any sort of distance casting. The surf is the one for that.

Pass on the greys plus reel offer at tony's but if you phone he often makes up deals on the spot. He did for me as I didn't want another abu.

Penn Pit Viper is lovely, as is the BZE and are just about all I use off the beach these days, Abu 5600CS Mag-x on the Greys which is well balanced but I'm thinking of having the levelwind removed and I've stuck with the Supermag on the Penn. Braid is not a good idea on a casting multi, do a bit of a search on here - there are loads of threads about it.

thanks lads :clap2::clap2: lots to think over, lots of combos ive had paul kerry beach casters,on a nemissis slr now and love it cant go far wrong with abu reels,so i asume that braid is much thinner diameter than mono then, didnt think it was that much thinner or not as good as mono on a casting reel, even more to rack my brain over, its not a bad life if thats all i got to moan about.thanks again for your response and have a plentifull weekend fishes that is:clap2::clap2::clap2:
