Cheers, I have put red in and greased the shaft ends, still a bit quick without 1/4 turn on tension cap.
Don't get me wrong, it's fine like this, but I would prefer to have it a tad slower incase I forget to set the end cap tension while fishing.

Without going the mono mag route, I think a simple static mag assisting the blocks is probably the easiest option and won't alter the reel if I wish to sell at some point. Twenty 8x1mm n52 magnets, plenty to play with were only ÂŁ1.50 delivered. An 8mm mag should give a stable fixing and not need to be too close to the spool to have a braking effect.

I'll have a play when they arrive and see what effect they have on cast control and distance.

Cheers si

Just took a couple of pics showing the size and line level better.

I stand by my comment, Si - over spooled.

If s/leader is taped down and the spool cannot be removed from its cage, its too full for a reel designated to long distance fishing. Imo, it's loaded like a tournament casting reel and those reels only toss leads. It will behave far better by lowering your line level a smidge, you won't miss it!

Peeling off said amount of line is going to be neither here nor there when a bait in the drink. It really isn't going to make that much difference with regard to inches gained per handle revolution. If such is a concern for the marks you frequent, I'd lean toward a bigger sized spool being more advantageous.

Losing a small amount of line for better control is a better trade off than continued faffing, but that's just me.

You'll need to keep an eye on those because that is WAY too cheap to be of any quality. The cheap ones have a habit of losing their strength all of a sudden. If you get it tuned how you like it and it suddenly doesn't work at some point in the future that would be something to look out for.

Cheers I'll keep that in mind
I do have a selection of odd ones lying around, that were more expensive from UK, but thought I would grab some thin cheap ones to play with If I'm happy with the outcome and they weaken I'll get some good ones.

Do you know any good suppliers?

Cheers si.

I hear what your saying but I would rather keep a full spool of line in case of losing gear to snags, and run a bit more braking.

The line level is already a good 3mm down and tapped leader with clip will easily slide out the frame.

I also quite like playing with my reels :happydance:

As I was bored with this rain, I found out a stack of 10x1mm mags and put a stack in the reel. First spin I was getting a spin time of around 8 seconds with a slight bit of end float on the spool.

I removed 1 mag and it went up to 11 seconds. I decided to leave like this until I have a practice cast, then adjust mag numbers to suit.

A few clicks of endcap tension drops spin time to 7-8 sec
Before adding the mags I had to tighten the endcap another 1/3 of a turn to stop line lift.
When I get to test I'll report back, however there are now sheep in my casting field :frown:
