SAS rod tube question

Hi i have just spoken with the SAS airline regarding taken 2 rod tubes max 2m long with a 23kilo on them for 90e each.

The lass on the desk said the tube should not contain more than 1 rod...so my question is has anyone had the rod tube checked by SAS on the desk etc if the size was 2m or under and your under the 23kilo?

We are planning on taken 4 rods per tube and chucking a few leads and mars bars etc in the tube but keeping it below the 23kilo, is this 1 rod per tube just standard nfo or do they really uphold it?

Anyone had any experiance of this? no doubt they will scan all tubes at some point.

Spoke with SAS again 2mins ago, got an English man this time so got abit more info.

This may help others so i put it in detail......

Booked 2x tubes between the 4 of us, max dimensions 2m long by 15cm wide and weight 23kilo

Tubes must be pre-booked before the flight each way

Tubes to be paid for on the day at the airport each way

Cost 45e each way per tube so 180e all in for both tubes

No limit to items in the tube as long as they fit inside and not over 23kilo range

Would still love to here of any good or bad experiances of transporting rod tubes via this airline...as much info as possible helps everyone.

Hi mate,

Been with SAS twice now and at Heathrow they didn't bother measuring the tube - they just ask you to put the rod tubes on a crate which is wheeled out to the plane. Both years our tube was 205cm as my Daiwa TDX was just over 2m in length when broken down. In addition to the rods also put your pirks inside taped to a piece of 2" x 1" along with choccy bars etc. You are allowed up to 23kg for each tube so use it - just 4 rods per tube wont weigh much at all.

Hi. Flew with sas last july, paid for exta bags and rod tube at the airport. The rod tube is the same price as an extra bag, £25 or thereabouts if I remember correctly, we took one rod tube between 4 people with 8 rods in, I think its a bit of a carry on at the airport tbh, printing baggage labels, checking in etc, part of the fun I suppose! One of my mates was convinced the lass checking us in made a **** up with one of the baggage labels, but didnt say out. Sure enough that bag didnt turn up at oslo, still had 2 planes to catch so had to crack on. Left details of where we were staying etc at alta airport and on our second day, hey presto, the bag turns up at our digs!
Fair play to them, they managed to get the bag to alta, on a two hour car journey and on a two hour ferry journey! the bacon and sausage was still fresh aswell:laugh:
