Hi all,

got the chance of another boat locally - 17ft, 60hp Evinrude, 2yr old snipe trailer + fish finder, GPS and VHF for an asking price of £2850. It looks in pretty good nick just needs a tidy up, apart from perhaps the keel which might need a bit more attention (will take advice on it + pic attached if anyone can comment?).

The guy who's selling it says he thinks it's a Seahog - it looks a bit like one from the hull but has a single screen forward, not double like I've seen in many pic's. Any ideas whether it is or isn't?

Cheers - Chris

defo not worth just under 3k for that. it looks like a wilson flyer and not in very good condition for that sort of money

Dont let everyone put you off them, they are great little boats, very great, perfect hull shape, will take a lot of sea.

As for condition, use it as a bargaining point, your better of with a scruffy one in my opinion than a shiny one that has all sorts hidden under a nice new paint job.

But yes i think it is overpriced, get yuor haggle head on and take a grand off it.

Oh and i also think it is a flyer.

99.9% sure its a wilson with the shorter cabin. The trailer aint bad, its an indespension i think £800 new. Whats the engine on like? The electronics dont look to bad either?

That damage looks pretty bad though and like its been there for a while, getting to it to repair could involve cutting out cabin parts etc.

Wouldnt pay that much for it unless the engine was worth £1500+

I"d be looking at £1,500 max assuming the engine is ok & the hull damage is easily enough repairable.
It looks from the picture that the hull is split right through to the wooden keel underneath & has been like it for some time. It may be quite a job to sort it out.

Agree that is the very Max i would offer, you are as pointed out in for a lot of work to make that seaworhy, take into account the engine may be in the same condition,if the boat has not been looked after it usualy follows the engine has not as well, when i bought my boat the gearbox was naffed, cost to replace engine £1,200 so take all this into conideration, and you have not started on the hull yet.And yes it is a Pilot

from the looks of that keel it certenly looks like it might have serious wet problems internally, far better to make sure of having a sound hull, if it goes down you could have a bloody long swim as well as being out of pocket. Sorry mate forget it, get one without the submarine option.:bye2:
I was going to say that, but once you get the I wants it`s difficult to dissuade and advise politely against.

The engine's an Evinrude 60 VRO of unknown vintage and not recently serviced, from what I remember Evinrudes aren't the best of outboards and it needs a new throttle cable (the owner said he uses a piece of string to make sure it doesn't stall in neutral!?).

Electronics are Garmin GPS152 and Fishfinder 160C + Midland AtlanticXT handheld VHF.

There's some more pic's in the attached link (if it works)

Think I'll give it a miss as there are better cheaper ones on *bay.

Thanks again for the advice, no doubt I'll be back :)
