Stolen Apex headlights (possibly)

hi all,

I ordered two princeton tec apex 130lumens headlights from the usa about 8 weeks ago, they're now 4 weeks overdue and have apparently gone missing this side of the pond,

if anyone knows of anyone who's suddenly come into posession of two of these lamps, selling one, got a new one, etc, please let me know so i can forward info the the police.

the seller is reliable (have used him a number of times, as have many on here) and i'm not happy at the thought of some scrote profiting at my expense.

£20 reward for info leading to the scrote who took them or passed them on.

Hugh

If you paid with a credit card just phone the credit card company and get a charge back.

paypal mate.

can prob get my money back, prob will, but as a seller myself it's pretty crappy when royal mail lose something that i have to replace for free with no comeback unless i go into the post office and get proof of post EVERY time i send something. wouldn't mind finding who got em though,

will do!! becuase i just assumed it was stuck at customs, i never bothered to keep an eye on ebay, everytime i order more than one it gets custom'd and delayed a couple of weeks, but it's now about 8 weeks, sebastian has been keeping in touch, though maybe not as frequently or with as much info as i might like.

there's only one 'new boxed' unwanted gift sold recently on ebay so i doubt it's related.

Seems to be a common occurrence at the moment, stuff going 'missing' from sorting office's - mentioned in this thread as well

http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160787

wonder if the packages went through the same office?
it prob woulda come in at gatwick or heathrow, then to gatwick or crawley sorting office, then to here.

id be torturing the postie personally.......just incase he knows something :hammer:

lol, i'll did out the old dinner jacket and find the cut-throat!

Have a look at my ancient thread of 27/11/07 concerning the non-delivery of a pair of Apex lamps from the US.

Posts #1 and #36 are the most relevant.

Maybe this is the problem?
thanks mate. i'll go to the sorting office / main post office building tomorrow.

cheers.

Hugh, I once had some line stuck with Customs for in excess of 5 months - like you I believed someone had helped themselves to it and 5 months later it arrived out of the blue - it had been held over from the Xmas backlog...
i wonder if it's worth me calling them then!

As a postie I resent any unfounded accusations by some that 'The postie must have nicked it' when there could be a dozen or more explanations why they are missing. Not saying that it isn't possible, after all any business may have employees who steal whether it be a phone call on the firms phone or whatever, but unless there's factual evidence you are talking out of your backside. :blahblah:

The package may be incorrectly addressed.

There may be a customs charge outstanding.

The items may have been damaged and the sender or recipient cannot be traced.

The items may not even have been sent at all.

If all other avenues of investigation have been exhausted then tell Royal Mail that you suspect that they may have gone missing while in their care, they have a special department that deals with thieves, let them deal with it.

Rob,

no offence dude, i've never suggested my postie has pinched it, just that somewhere down the line it's gone missing.

I have emailed the seller for any relevent tracking info, addresses etc so i can go to the sorting office in the morning and see if they have anything there for me.

it's either not made it to my door, wasn;t carded on the rare occasion i'm not here, or was poss left in the porch with no sig and pinched from there, either way it's not been delivered. could've been taken from anywhere by anyone, there's airport staff unloading, sorting offices, etc etc.

after the sorting office, my next step will be customs.

cheers dude,
Hugh

Any chance you could let us know where you got them from and what sort of price they go for.
Have a look on ebay for a seller called sebastian-11, or have a look at Item number: 260367782895 which is one he's selling at the moment, £46.27 + £9.46 p&p

Or for a little extra, you could have it delivered by USPS Priority, that is fully trackable on-line.

I'm a regular ebay seller and will not send anything unless it is at the very least recorded delivery. If I ship overseas, then they pay for International Signed-for at least. In fact, if I ship to Italy, there is no option other than paying for DHL courier, simply because the postal service in Italy is, without doubt, run by gangsters. I also refuse to mark down the customs value, simply because if it goes missing, I can only claim the declared value, yet the buyer can reverse a paypal payment for the full amount.

If you want to 'save' money by buying from overseas, don't complain if your package goes astray, these things happen.

erm, as i mentioned, i've always had to sign for them in the past. paid with paypal so covered there too, just wana get to the bottom of it before i have to try and recall paypal money from a genuine seller. not his fault is it!

italy? sent loads of tape there with no problems,

before buying the occasional headlamp from the US (my local shop don't do em, nor do others i use, and it is all i buy from there) I i was a trader for 12 yrs in new and used american chrysler / dodoge / plymouth & mopar car and drag race parts, i would source anything from a tail light lense to shipping whole shells / cars etc, never had a problem with stuff not ariving. delayed a week or two by customs, or queried for longer than i felt comfy with at the docks, but never missing!

Surely if the lamps were insured, you're covered anyway. The title of the thread was "Stolen Apex headlights" with possibly then added as something of an afterthought, wouldn't "Missing" have been a better description Hugh?

If you do a search on ebay noticeboards for "Italy" or "Italian", you'll find a number of sellers (many US-base) who simply refuse to send to Italy, full-stop. Italy is one of the few countries that Royal Mail will not ship via "Airsure", this is because Italia Postale have absolutely no idea where anything is in their system. Another problem concerns the inordinate number of items shipped to Italy, then claimed to have not been delivered and the paypal payment reversed. It's simply not worth the bother. Mind you, even the couriers can have problems: I recently sent some roof bars via UPS, the twonk of a diver managed to deliver them to the empty property, next door to the consignee, he even managed to get some mythical character called Rhodes to sign for them.

PERHAPS MISSING MIGHT HAVE BEEN BETTER, BU THE LIKELYHOOD OF THEM TURNING UP (oops, sorry about caps) when more than 4 weeks overdue is remote, if they're not in my hands, and very likely no more in the hands of the postal service, then i suggest they're not simply missing!

re italy, i don't doubt what you say, but in many years of sending stuff over there, i don't think i personally have lost owt!

cheers dude,
Hugh

I can give you factual evidence of thieving in the postal service.

My postman got sacked for stealing a mobile phone and I have had countless envelopes delivered to me over the years with the corner of the envelope torn off. Inside there is a letter saying hope you like your sample pen with your company name on it.

I'm sure that many people on here know postmen who use pens with various company names on them. They don't fall out of the envelope. I know they are free samples so I don't actually have any financial loss, but it's still theft.

I gave a mate of mine who used to work in a sorting office a bollicking once when I saw him using such a pen once.

In any large company you will get plenty of thieving gits.

Also some of the sciving that goes on is unbelievable, so don't feel too sorry for your postie if he/she faces losing their job and yes I can back this info up 'cos I know plenty of posties.

I also know honest postmen who work damned hard but as always it's the rotten ones who spoil it for the others.

as i said mate, i don't suspect my postie, or any of the fill ins we've had when he's been on hols etc, i guess it's the big sorting offices where it may be more likely to occur, maybe even customs or the airport!

who knows. just fancy finding these lamps!
