I know this wont go down well and may ruffle a few feathers but the truth has to be said about what goes on behind the scenes regarding Tagging.
After doing a bit of digging about, shark tagging mainly skate and spurs, it all seems great on the surface and seems to be doing well with more and more people wanting to do their bit to help, but what is really going on ??? .
The main thing that concerns me is why there is so much publicity on the tagging of spurs when behind the scenes spurs are getting used as bait for skate fishing, I know that all involved will deny that this is going on which is to be expected, but it is going on and thats where my concerns are I have read in the past people condemning other people about how they are handling spurs after catching them, if truth be said all fish should be handled with care.
I personally fish for the table but on occasion I fish for species that you wont normally eat.
So is tagging spurs making a difference when so many are used as bait ?? In my personal opinion leave the fish alone, tagging is not going to change anything it will help to learn their movements and growth rate but its not going to change their habits. And as usual man is tampering with nature.
There has been debates in the past over this sort of thing but it still seems to go on. I can understand using spurs as bait as its the same as all fish, but those that want to conserve them then use them as bait is that not being a bit hypocritical ??.
Now before anyone kicks off about who told you this and that, Im not going to divulge any names so dont ask .
This is a genuine thread I have not mentioned any names and dont intend to but its the truth and reliable information if you have an opinion or dont agree with me then have your say but keep it sensible and clean this is not put on for arguing and bickering so please be responsible about it.
