Was up there last year a bit later on than this right enough. Didn't have any bait so fished dexter wedges and fire tail eddystone eels. Fished a few marks around Tain post office and had fish to about 3.5lbs although hooked and lost much bigger. Was gutted i didn't have the fly gear as most takes were about 10 feet out !!!!!

Pollock? sounds promising.... must admit, I would like to locate Rag but not planning on taking Fork with me (prefer to get from a tackle shop).
Is that Tain PO mark a rocks or pier-type?

Hi lads, I live in Tain and can guarantee you that the PO is nowhere near the sea!

Briser - Wrasse & Pollack to be had from Tarbat Ness (do a search - loads of info on here) to usual tactics.

Flatties, Sea Trout and occassional Bass from the beaches.

Macleod's hardware shop on the High St (few doors along from the PO) stocks some tackle and some frozen baits (black lug, mackie, herring etc).

When you planning heading up?

Cheers

Bob

Hi Bobert - great info! we are actually leaving the "Broch" this saturday heading up to an old haunt, Meikle Ferry. The mrs does not want me turning the holiday into a fishing expedition but I am sure a couple of casts won't harm me lol!

Hi mate, you'll get flatties, seat trout and the odd bass at Meikle Ferry, Meikle Ferry North and from under the Dornoch Bridge (fast tide rip here though).

I'd imagine lug is available on the mud infront of caravan park.

Was planning heading out myself this weekend but forecast is wet and windy.

How long are you up for?

Cheers

Good luck fella, let me know how you get on!

If you head north there are large sandy beaches at Dornoch/Embo that hold the usual suspects.

As mentioned before Tarbat Ness is the local deep water rock mark....can be a bit hit or miss though.

If you need any more info just give me a shout......might even bump into you if I'm out and about myself!

Plaice was Meikle Ferry North on ledgered lug.

Loads of Wrasse (both ballan and corkwing) to be had at Tarbat Ness to float fished lug/rag.

The south facing rocks from the car park right out to the point is deep water and you can get wrasse right at your feet on the float.

Cheers
