Is a waxing tide generally higher and faster flowing than a waning or vice versa?

A waxing moon looks like it is getting bigger starting from the new moon and growing to a full moon. Once it’s at a full moon it wanes back to a new moon. Tidal range and flow rate are greatest a couple of days after new and full moons when the spring tides occur. The smallest range and slowest flows occur during the neaps which is when there is a half moon.

The size of the spring tide range and flow varies through the year and is usually biggest around the equinoxes.

Good explanation of tides here: http://www.sailtrain.co.uk/navigation/tides.htm
In fact the whole Sailtrain site has lots of useful info for boaters: http://www.sailtrain.co.uk

A good tide table (such as this one local to me: https://dale-sailing.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Dale-2020-Tidetable-web.pdf - scroll down to page 9 to see the start of the tidetables) has the state of the moon as small symbols (below the date and day) to show the state of the moon so you can compare tidal range to the the state of the moon. The higher the range, the greater the tidal flow.
