Cheers Tony,
Hi Red GurnardGood count of species, well done and thanks for the report, sounds like it's fishing well atm.
Yes there was certainly no cleaning taking place yesterday and it was a shame that the tackle shop on the end did not open as we were relying on it for lug.... but the Arm is now a lot cleaner than it was and is easy place to teach Pat to fish, good to see dads and kids fishing together..... ideal venue and something nearly always turns upYep, we had a laugh and some nice fish.
Shame there was dog ****e on the arm and crisp packets flying about.
We were wondering why we pay to fish it again ???
A lot of people walk their dogs up and down the Arm... it's just a shame that the odd dog walker doesn't keep an eye on what their dog is doing... or maybe they just choose not to!!Yep, we had a laugh and some nice fish.

It would have been cleared up long before most people even got up in the morning and again long after most had departed for home..Yes there was certainly no cleaning taking place yesterday and it was a shame that the tackle shop on the end did not open as we were relying on it for lug.... but the Arm is now a lot cleaner than it was and is easy place to teach Pat to fish, good to see dads and kids fishing together..... ideal venue and something nearly always turns up

There is a phone number on the board at the entrance to order bait but sometimes there is spare that can be bought on the off chance.. Best to order it to make certain though. The tackle shop is not constantly manned [who'd want to spend their life in a tin shed with no windows! lol] but most people realise that the man in the yellow jacket who is up and down the Arm with West Breakwater Fishing I.D. on the front and Shoreham Port logo across the back is the man to ask about bait/tackle etc.
It is good to see, sometimes whole families fishing together and a lot more ladies fish the Arm alone these days than would have ever done so a few years ago... Nothing like seeing the look on a youngsters face when he catches a decent fish eh... Priceless.[/QUOTE]
Your spot on there mate, the ATSMR free coaching days for young recruits and mums/dads is averaging a 50/50 split between young girls and boys and the best bit is the mums enjoy it more than any of them, quite funny to see their faces when they come of the charter boat.
It really is nice to see.. It's really nice to see the Arm still open as a venue that would certainly have been lost too... and Anglers bringing along their wives and kids for a day out. Unfortunately, just now and again there is some 'anti' remark like 'there was dogs s.... on the Arm' or 'there was a crisp packet blowing about' on a really windy day!It would have been cleared up long before most people even got up in the morning and again long after most had departed for home..

The public walk on the Arm with dogs [nothing to do with fishermen] but still if this happens it is the staff of WBF who have to clear it up [once they are aware!] Maybe directing jibes at the public if anyone sees this happen... or telling the warden at the time would be more constructive than waiting till one gets home and then having an anonymous pop on here!!
I'm willing to wage that if a poll were done, 99 out of 100 people would rather pay less than the price of a pint of beer for a 12 hour ticket to fish the Arm these days... and the other 1% are probably the ones who just don't care and probably contributed towards it getting closed to fishermen in the first place!!!

I am 100% sure their comments were not meant to have a pop at anyone, Sparks use to clean that arm all on his own so he appreciates the effort needed to keep it clean.
I fished that arm for the best part of 20 years before I became a boat angler and it was always a mess, yet it still holds a special place in my heart. There has always been a regular number of non angling public that walk on that arm to see what is happening, night and day it never seemed to matter during the summer months. I often had a good chat with some locals who were very interested in what was being caught and how we catch them, it was good interaction with the community and anglers met on a regular basis back then and everything seemed so much more relaxed and fun. Wouldn't know these people if I walked past them on the street but when angling there was a connection, something that everyone enjoyed doing, good old days.
surely it's better to have the option to pay and fish ,
against the option of the arm shut to fishing full stop !
reds are red rag. Essential for bites on arm.Loving this thread as fishing here in a few weeks, May I ask what are reds ?? Ragworm?
Reds locally but also called Maddies and harbour rag they can be dug north of the Norfolk Bridge a good hook size is a short shank size 4 fished in bunches or used for tipping off the local blow lugLoving this thread as fishing here in a few weeks, May I ask what are reds ?? Ragworm?
Sorry for not replying earlier, been stuck indoors with no will to live with a bit of gastro. It really is nice to see.. Anyway, as for an anonymous pop, Prime know me, the wardens collectors know me not my user name on here perhaps.
As Sparks/Tony says i am new here to the Arm ( 1 1/2 years now on and off) and not fully aware of the issues before but listening to Tony and the efforts he made to help keep the place open are outstanding. I may be new to fishing the arm or beach fishing in general but having been fishing for 45 of my 50 years I know how to clean up after myself and others. Dog ****e is not in that remit I am afraid. That day I took line discarded that had been blown down ( As I have done before), inspected my area and my friends as we packed up and left. Gave some advise to others and chatted with walkers on the arm. So do know something of the etiquette required.
We ( I assume all of us) would shame a dog walker if he left the faeces lying about, even offer a bag for it. But making a slightly snide remark about my comment here and further on is out of order. If the person cycling up and down was looking he would have seen it. He was fast enough to take the money and disappear for several hours. It is not for me to wonder what and why he was up to. I do wonder why the place was not inspected once during our 6-7 hours there.
My comment was made as that, a comment.
But I am glad you have replied, perhaps a sign for dog walkers is needed.
We now have one for the non use of white lights at night which is fair enough.
Regards
