I've recently bought 2 new shamano ultegra 10000 and not sure what line to put on them. Not really a big fan of braid as my friend uses this and has a few problems and its put me off. I won't be using it on rough ground. I'll be using it for all round fishing. Any suggestions

Thanks
Adam.

Everyone has their own favourite line.

I use Daiwa Sensor Surf 18lb with 50 lb shock leader.

I've used Red Ice, but it's a 'marmite' line. You either love it or hate it.

Just a note on shock leader strength: As you can easily have an ounce of bait in addition to your lead, it would be better to up the strength of the leader to take this into account.

Fill up about a good third of the spool with cheap crap as backing line then fill it up with some decent stuff like tritanium or suffix surf etc. don't be put off by using a thicker line than .35 as it helps to have a bit more grunt if you get snagged. Try a decent 18 or 20lb line - that would be my choice.

I did think that. But good to get some feed back and advice. Is it also advised to use shock leader as well?
Adam, a shockleader is a must if you ar to cast safely. Dpending on what ground you fish 15-20lb should do, some of th better lines have 18-20lb line in the same diameter as 15lb. Suffix is very good as is Daiwa, you could also look at a tapered leader to have a small knot on the joint. Check out the likes of Veals or Gerrys of Morecambe as thy stock them, as do a lot of tackle shops.

Anybody who says 'Red Ice' honestly does not know what they are talking about. It is dreadful stuff.
I was always Penn Super Surf, and had a big stock. When I ran out I panicked and bought Red Ice. Honestly, it was just horrible. I have stripped off and throwing. It got into knots straight from the spool, and I had a few birdies and crack-offs, and I can cast pretty damn well.
Even reeling in sometimes, when lead was snapped off, it would come back in in knots!
I am delighted that Sufix Tritanium is basically the same as Penn Super Surf, and it is awesome stuff.
I have multipliers with 15lb (well, 19lb), 25lb and 35lb, and fish smooth and rocks of Yorkshire coast.
I cast 250 yards with TTR and 19lb on grass. Jelly's on 2oz with 19lb on TT lite. And 35lb's into kelp with Excalibur C.
It is absolutely excellent line.
Cannot comment on some others, but Red Ice is APPALLING!!!!

I used to use Ultima red ice all the time and never had a problem. Some seem to like it others not. I still use it for my lure fishing. It's not as soft as some at the same poundage and colour seems to fade quite quickly. Distance on the other hand is a lot more supple and has a higher abrasion rate. Red ice is also sold under a few other manufacturers names an i haven't seen any negative reports on them yet. For the price(e3.50 for a 4oz spool) of Red Ice i sell more of this that any other line in the same price bracket.

ultima lines are a weird one,
I rate f1 as the best line ive used,
but ive also had several spools of F1 that were rubbish, same with their powerpro, some where excellent, no different to the f1 to me and some where crap, got told that some of the stuff i was buying was bankrupt stock, shop soiled prehaps theres some that are factory 2nd type stuff

Daiwa tournament... Good knot strength, Low diameter, Bright coulor, Very nice line.
And this from the man who never bought it as he didnt like the colour... Used to say bright lines put the fish off, and then littered the trace end with coloured beads..
Could the reason you now like it be something to do with the fact I gave you a load of spools?

Hmmmmm... let me think..
