Hello my name is Aaron wallace I'm 23 from the highlands in Scotland I live in nairn mainly do river fishing with fly or worm but always been interested in sea fishing for a long time but don't have the funds for a boat haha can anyone recommend a decent beach caster and preferably a multiplier reel although I've never used one before hopefully there not to complicated. I don't want to break the bank tho. And also what kind of fish can I expect from nairn beach and surroding areas cheers Aaron.

welcome to wsf, I see you are keen to get a multi my recommendation would get a cheap fixed spool first just to get to grips with distance casting its a bit different from casting in a river/loch or better get a multi and fs. I have seen a large number of people buying multis as soon as they get into sea angling and just get frustrated as they cant get a bait in the water. As for rods
what are you wanting to target?
do you need to cast big leads? (6oz+)
and for reels
do you fish over rough ground
do you need to fish at distance
Answering these questions will help people guide you in the right direction. Being a beginner I would go to a local tackle shop and they will be able to set you up. You may pay more than online but the information they will tell you will be invaluable.
Tight lines Hope you get your first fish soon

look at some continental style rods designed with your sort of fishing in mind. I've heard that the Shakespeare range are quite good and are fairly priced they are very sensitive look at the Penn 515 mag or Abu Garcia 5000 or 6500 for multis but as I said I can't recommend enough that you should run a fs for a while until you get to grips with sea fishing
ps high tide just refers to the water being at its highest point a strong tidal run is what drags your gear around

either a wishbone rig or better a 2 or three hook flapper baited with either mackerel or lug/rag worm

no not really, look up how to tie a paternoster rig that will save you having to bother with crimps(involves squeezing a metal tube around the line) you can buy them online pretied aswell id recommend a site called sea-west great company high-quality rigs a good prices, I've stopped tieing all my rigs as its almost cheaper to buy them pre-tied nowadays. If you want distance get clipped down rigs it will make bait and rig a lot more streamlined and will get you a good bit extra distance

Hi Aaron

Welcome. I live in kinloss so not fair at all from you. Not an expert tbh on the area as fishing has suffered since being here but know a little, and know how to lol.

Nairn you will get flatties basically mainly flounder. Moving north portmahomack will give you a good chance at wrasse and Pollock. Coming my way flatties, coalies and small codling at the right time of year. Findhorn thru to sandend (some bass and small turbot there also) really. Portsoy gives you access to deeper rock marks, BUT BE CAREFUL. Aberdeen towards Arbroath for cod season.

As I say not fished as much as I would have liked so still sussing out marks. Leo (Highlandshorecaster) is the man on here.

That said if you want a hand with multi or a little help getting started drop us a pm. Happy to help.

Steve
